close ups and landscapes

taking pictures of all of your surroundings, not just the main subject/your friends

Turn your candid photos into narratives

Have your friends be a part of your artistic process by asking if you can take pictures of them while doing a daily routine.

Take pictures of them going for a walk, cooking, listening to music, whatever feels the most natural, and unforced.

Choose 3 images and put them side by side.

What narrative do they tell?

Find an opportunity to take candids of your friends going through their day, then create a narrative from these pictures.

Create a new reality using the reality in front of your lens.

In each still image is a scene with a person in action, allowing for the audience to create their own narrative without an implied conclusion.

Ask yourself: How can I tell a story through visuals instead of words?

Pay Attention to Composition

Ask yourself: how to the Elements of Art and Principles of Design work to move your eye around the image?

Do the lines draw your eye inwards or outwards?

Where does your focus go to in each photo?

How are the objects in the frame connected?

What illusion's do multiple pictures allow for?

What are the aspects that contrast and unite the images?

Where is the negative space?

How do the colours and their hues create emotion?

How are opposing objects connected through similar elements of art?

Leave art open ended

By having your art avoid a direct conclusion or explicitly displaying your interpretation the audience can engage with the art through their creativity by creating their own conclusion. This allows your art to trigger their artist brain and curiosity. Think abstract when creating your triptychs. Let the images speak for themselves and together.
