What does your favourite song look like?

A series of abstract art in the form of a video triptych inspired by a favourite song and why it is their favourite.

my process

I was first inspired by how I felt when I listened to my favourite song. Then I let other's be a part of my process by interviewing them.

I decided to use Adobe Premiere Pro to create my project where I'd attach the audio to the visuals.

I started asking questions, beginning with:

How do others feel when they listen to their favourite song?

Interview: What is your favourite song and why?

Do you associate it with a past memory?

What emotions does it make you feel?

Do you create a narrative of yourself in your head?

Where do you get transported?

Do you create main character imagery/imaginations in your head?

When do you play it?

Will the song fill a void when you’re deprived of that feeling you get from listening to it? (comfort, empathy, freedom, hope, peace)

How can I convey emotion through visual art?

Using what I learned in creating triptychs, I implemented the Elements of Art and Principles of Design to convey the emotion the song made both my interviewee and I feel.

I decided to convey the emotions through visuals of abstract art.

After using Adobe Premiere Pro to organize my audio I decided to challenge myself by using Adobe After Effects.

How do I create abstract art?

As it was my first time creating abstract art, I wanted to avoid giving too much information to the audience so they couldn't interpret my art themselves.

If an artist doesn't give the audience enough rom to input their perspective, The art answers the question that I want to be open so the audience can answer it by engaging with their own artist abilities.

If there were any shapes that implied an object I used After Effect transformations to explode the shape into separate abstract shape components.
